Still the dynamic duo:
Yeh and Lam give uncles and aunties a good time
By Tor Ching Li

Who needs a Step Out Singapore anthem when you have Queen of Cantopop Sally Yeh・s catchy 1991 hit, Take A Cool Walk (Xiao Sa Zhou Yi Hui)!

Indeed, it seemed community club karaoke champions from all corners of Singapore had turned up at the Suntec convention hall last Saturday in full force to stroll down memory lane with veteran songbirds-cum-lovebirds Sally Yeh and George Lam, on the last leg of their World Tour 2003.

Though coming across as opposites on stage - the exuberant Sally in bright, sparkly outfits and the subtle George in black and white - the magnetic duo managed to draw the 4,000-strong crowd to their feet by the end of the fully-packed three-hour concert-cum-party.

It was quite a feat too, considering they were pandering to a :mature; audience.

The seasoned and sizzling duo made their presence (and presents) felt throughout the double-bill performance.

Autographed posters, T-shirts, teddy bears, sports bags and tennis balls were generously flung and served (using tennis rackets) to the excited crowd.

It did not matter one bit either that there was no waving of fancy fluorescent banners - their fans were there and that was enough for a good time.

From Sally・s opening song, Dancing Queen, aunties in their seventies with the latest perms were shaking their booties as if they were sweet, young things.

Sally, ever the livewire, took it all in her stride.

She said right from the start: :We may be .mature・ but we have energy! So, get ready for a long night!;

All promises were kept as Sally and George effortlessly belted out around 35 chart-toppers - often greeted by appreciative applause.

Among these were Ah Lam・s sentimental ballad Need You Every Minute, Sally・s Autumn and the heart-felt duet, Choice.

Evergreen songs aside, Sally・s new up-tempo song, Have You Heard, was happily lapped up too - though the overwhelming sound system made the question rather redundant!

Indeed, only fans who had forgotten to bring their hearing aids would have found the sound level just right.
