We still hear you, Sally!

By Ann-marie Tan

HEY, have you heard? Sally Yeh is still winning 'em over - fans old and new.

Five years away from the entertainment scene for the Canto-pop diva appears not to have diminished her appeal one bit.

STILL VIBRANT

Her fans swear she is 'still as beautiful' and that her songs are 'as touching and vibrant'.

At the singer's You've Heard album launch party at Embassy Entertainment on Monday night, more than 300 fans cheered and clapped the night away as Sally belted out her new songs.

Some of them were probably just babies when Sally, now 41, rocketed to fame in the '80s.

They went especially crazy when she sang her latest song Have You Heard?, screaming in response: 'We hear you!'.

Some even made banners and printed T-shirts bearing her name at their own cost in a show of support.

But the older faithfuls were also there - the well-dressed ladies and gentlemen who queued up three hours before the 7.30pm performance just to listen to her.

One fan, Mr Norman Leong, 28, said: 'I listened to her old songs before I slept and always hoped she would come back.

'The songs were very meaningful and sweet.'

FANS LIKE FRIENDS

Another fan, Mr Ricky Lam, 29, said: 'And not to forget her personal manner when it comes to treating fans like friends!'

'She looks younger and her style is still the same. She has a very feminine look,' he added.

Sally's album is available at all major record stores.

MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME

SALLY YEH knows she doesn't have much time left to, as she puts it, 'get the crowds'. 'I love to sing but I also realise I am 41. So, I thought I better hurry up and start singing again,' she told The New Paper.

The spunky diva is determined to go on for as long as her fans will accept her.

As for attracting new fans and keeping the old, Sally said there should not be any prejudice when it comes to music.

'To me, music has no age group. It is ageless and if it is good, it's timeless.' she said. Sally sang five songs, four from her latest album, during Monday's showcase.'

'I would like to try rap, ethnic, R & B and hip hop. I love my own song Have You Heard? because it's like aerobics,' said Sally, who jiggled her hips and tossed her hair during the hit.
